FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why culinary classes for kids?

Food is a fundamental part of life—it brings people together, supports overall health, and creates joy. Beyond simply providing meals, children need to develop the skills and confidence to prepare food themselves.

While caution around tools like knives and ovens is necessary at a young age, gradually introducing culinary skills helps build independence and reduces fear in the kitchen. Learning to cook empowers children to make informed, healthy choices and fosters a positive, lasting relationship with food.

Encouraging an interest in cooking or baking through hands-on experiences allows young learners to explore their creativity while developing practical life skills. As they grow, these abilities become essential for self-sufficiency, giving them the confidence to care for themselves and maintain healthy habits.

What age are you teaching?

We teach a large range of kids, as we believe these hands-on skills are useful no matter your age. Primarily, our classes suit kids/ teens ranging from 7 to 17 years of age.

What do you need to bring to class?

Every day, kids are expected to bring 4 things each day:

1. A lunch, as we do take a break, and it is important for us to keep steady blood sugar levels. This being said, I will have a few snacks in case a kido forgets to bring food.

2. A tuberwear container/ baking sheet. At BakeAustin, we try our best to reduce waist and as your children will be taking goodies home every day, they must bring a container to class every day for transportation.

3. Hair tie, if your child’s hair grows past their chin, it is mandatory that they have it up every day, so we maintain a sanitary kitchen.

4. Their smiling faces and readiness to have fun! I am excited to meet and cook with every camper who comes to BakeAustin.

Where are you located?

We are currently hosting our in-person classes at the Genesis Creative Collective. 1507 Wilshire Blvd Unit #1, Austin, TX 78722

How do I sign up?

You can sign up by clicking on the tab in the top right corner named “Summer Camps.” It will bring you to our new registration page, where you select your desired camp, enter your information, and then you are ready to go!

Do you have a sibling discount?

Yes and No. Yes, we have a 100% sibling discount for our virtual classes. Basically, if you sign up for our virtual classes, you can cook in the same kitchen with a friend or a sibling at no extra cost. However, we are not offering a sibling discount for in-person camps and classes at this moment.

What is your cancelation policy?

Our cancelation policies are a litte different for In-Person versus Virtual.
For our Virtual classes: Reservations for classes and camps may be canceled for a full refund until 2 weeks (14 days) before the camp/class date. Of course, you may also choose to have the camp/class fee transferred to another session, should one be available.
If less than 2 weeks notice given, we regret that the camp is non-refundable.
But you are welcome to transfer the camp/class to another person, however.
There are no make-up classes for any classes missed.
In the event that minimum enrollments are not met, or a class has to be rescheduled we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule camps. If this occurs, your entire tuition will be refunded.
For our In- Person Classes: To get a full refund cancellations MUST be made no later than 2 weeks BEFORE the start date of the class.  Failure to do so means forfeiture of your fee.

What will we be doing?

It depends on the specific class or camp, but both our in-person and virtual experiences are designed to be highly interactive and engaging. Students actively participate in every step of the process—measuring ingredients, preparing fruits and vegetables, and cooking or baking each recipe.

Our classes are 100% hands-on, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and receive guidance along the way. In addition to creating delicious dishes, students build essential life skills, including knife safety, oven safety, and proper food handling practices.

Virtual classes?

We currently have no online classes scheduled for 2026. If you are interested in such classes, please reach out to bakeaustin@gmail.com

How long are the classes?

In-person classes are either from 9 am to 1 pm, totaling 4 hours a day monday through Friday.

Do we have to bring a lunch?

Yes please bring a healthy lunch to our camps and classes, as well as something to drink. We work hard and need to nourish our bodies. We will take a break during class to eat. If the kids are hungry they can just let me know and have a snack any time their body needs some fuel.

Check-in & pick-up details

Drop-Off: 9:00 AM
Pick-Up: 1:00 PM

We kindly ask all families to arrive on time. For the safety and smooth flow of camp, early drop-off and late pick-up are not available.

We offer a 10-minute grace period for pick-up. After 1:10 PM, a late fee of $2 per minute will be charged. This policy ensures a smooth, respectful transition for all families and gives our team the time they need for clean-up and preparation.

Authorized parents or caretakers must sign their chefs in and out each day. This helps us keep your children safe and accounted for at all times.

Thank you for partnering with us to make camp a safe, fun, and well-organized experience for everyone!

What if my kid has special needs?

If your child has special needs, please contact me directly at bakeaustin@gmail.com or call me at (512) 542-2253. I prefer you safe guard both your child and me by just simply talking to me how I can be the best teacher for your kid. We all want to have a good experience especially when it comes to learning how to cook. This is a life long skill that we need to survive, so we want those early exposures to be positive. I often times meet up with parents and kids if need be to make everyone more comfortable. Please contact me before signing up if your child has special needs. Thank you!
