FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I sign up?

You can sign up by clicking on the link. It will bring you to our new registration page where you enter your information and then you are ready to go!

What will we be doing?

It depends on the class/camps. Our In-person and Virtual camps are similar, students are measuring their ingredients, cutting vegetables or fruits, cooking or baking all of the recipes provided. Our classes are 100% hands-on and everyone can ask questions at any point to clarify and get more guidance. Students learn also  life skills like knife safety, oven safety  and. of course food safety.

What is your cancelation policy?

Our cancelation policies are a litte different for In-Person versus Virtual.
For our Virtual classes: Reservations for classes and camps may be canceled for a full refund until 2 weeks (14 days) before the camp/class date. Of course, you may also choose to have the camp/class fee transferred to another session, should one be available.
If less than 2 weeks notice given, we regret that the camp is non-refundable.
But you are welcome to transfer the camp/class to another person, however.
There are no make-up classes for any classes missed.
In the event that minimum enrollments are not met, or a class has to be rescheduled we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule camps. If this occurs, your entire tuition will be refunded.
For our In- Person Classes: To get a full refund cancellations MUST be made no later than 2 weeks BEFORE the start date of the class.  Failure to do so means forfeiture of your fee.

Do you have a sibling discount?

Yes and No. Yes, we have a 100% sibling discount for our virtual classes. Basically if you sign up for our virtual classes you can cook in the same kitchen with a friend, or a sibling at no extra cost. No, we are not offering a sibling discount for in-person camps and classes at this moment.

Do you offer classes and camps for teens?

Of course! We are offering camps and classes for teens. A lot of our camps and classes are geared to a multi age but trust me, since I am a mom of older kids I know how to engage them. I have a special skill to engage the younger or sometimes less experienced students differently as the older and often more experienced students. Some of our classes are also especially geared towards teens.

What age are you teaching?

We just opened classes for kids age 6 and up. Typically anyone over 17 moves to my adult classes. So the answer is age 6 to adult.

Where are you located?

We are currently hosting our in-person classes in Cherrywood neighborhood, super centrally located between Airport blvd and I35, in Austin, Texas. https://maps.app.goo.gl/drALBvuTxJrxzJEf6

How long are the classes?

Our virtual classes are 2 1/2 hours and our in-person classes are either 4-6 hours long.

Do we have to bring a lunch?

Yes please bring a healthy lunch to our camps and classes, as well as something to drink. We work hard and need to nourish our bodies. We will take a break during class to eat. If the kids are hungry they can just let me know and have a snack any time their body needs some fuel.

Virtual versus in-person classes?

Virtual classes are my passion! In our in-person classes, we have the opportunity to meet other students and have direct contact with the teacher, and maybe a more tactile experience. On the other side, virtual classes give young students the opportunity to learn how to use their own kitchen, including their stoves. They learn where all of the kitchen tools live, where to put things back, discover where to find cooking items, and also students learn how to use what they have readily available in their own homes. Oftentimes this translates into a more realistic experience for my young students which in return means that they are feeling more empowered to actually cook and bake in their own home. My experience has been from the feedback that I’ve gotten from parents, that the kids that have taken my virtual classes do a significant amount more cooking and baking at home than my in-person students. Though I understand why in-person classes are very valuable, and trust me I love spending time in person with my students, if you truly want your kids to learn how to become independent with cooking and baking I highly recommend signing them up for virtual classes.

What if my kid has special needs?

If your child has special needs, please contact me directly at bakeaustin@gmail.com or call me at (512) 542-2253. I prefer you safe guard both your child and me by just simply talking to me how I can be the best teacher for your kid. We all want to have a good experience especially when it comes to learning how to cook. This is a life long skill that we need to survive, so we want those early exposures to be positive. I often times meet up with parents and kids if need be to make everyone more comfortable. Please contact me before signing up if your child has special needs. Thank you!

Why culinary classes for kids?

Food is a fundamental part of life, that’s the simple truth. However, as parents, our responsibility goes beyond just ensuring our children eat; it extends to keeping them safe, especially in the kitchen. While it’s natural to instill caution around knives and ovens when they’re young, as they grow older, it’s essential to empower them with culinary skills.
Eventually, our children will leave the nest and need to fend for themselves, including preparing meals. Thus, it’s crucial to gradually remove the fear associated with cooking and encourage self-sufficiency. We start by ensuring they consume nutritious, organic foods from a young age, and we aim to maintain this approach as they mature.
For children showing an interest in cooking or baking, I wholeheartedly advocate for enrolling them in activities that nurture their culinary curiosity. This not only fosters a healthy relationship with food but also alleviates parental concerns as they embark on independent living. Speaking from personal experience as a mother of two young men who have recently flown the nest, I can attest that equipping them with cooking skills brings peace of mind, knowing they can take care of themselves.
